Using the XPS client, you can export preplan and container information through EDI in STIF format. If errors occur during the export process, you must resolve the errors and repeat the export process. Transmitting a STIF file with errors may result in data loss. Most export errors involve codes that cannot be found or codes that were inaccurately added to the STIF equiv file. Resolving these types of errors requires changes to the equiv and codes files.
The XPS client displays error messages in the EDI and the EDI Translator Log windows. You can print or save the contents of these windows by selecting Print or Save As, respectively, from the File menu.
For more information about the SMDG equiv and codes files and for assistance with troubleshooting EDI problems, see the manual Navis N4: Setup, Maintenance, and System Diagnostics Guide or consult your N4 administrator.
To export STIF data:
Open a vessel.
From the File menu, select EDI.
In the EDI window, from the Actions drop-down list, select STIF Export and click Begin.
In the EDI Export Criteria dialog box, select the information that you want to include in the EDI file, as follows:
Select All Standard Vessel Data to include all containers, tankage information, and projections.
Lashing is not included.
Select Custom Vessel Data to specify any combination of containers, tankage, projections, and lashing data.
Select Don’t use STIF Equiv to bypass the STIF equiv translation.
Select this box only if you are certain that the receiving site uses XPS or XPS terminal software and the same codes file as your site.
Select Include Compat. Groups to include the alpha character that defines a class-1 hazard's Compatibility Group. This option is helpful when you export information on class-1 hazardous containers.
Depending on your XPS configuration, some check boxes may be unavailable.
Click Export.
In the Save STIF file as dialog box, specify where you want to save the STIF file.
XPS applies a default file name and format (on page 1), but you can change this if your operation uses a different naming convention.
Click Save.
The XPS client displays process messages in the EDI and the EDI Translator Log windows.
When the export is complete, close the EDI window.
